Amarins & le Gatte Negre
Amarins & le gatte negre is a versatile, talented folk/pop group from Amsterdam. These energetic musicians add a fresh sound to the genre, with strong narrative lyrics, playful character and a unique group dynamic. The band came into being in the search of young songwriter Amarins for the perfect musical frame for her songs. At that point she was already well known in Amsterdam for her role as backing vocalist on the first two albums of renowned Dutch singer-songwriter Lucky Fonz III. After some wandering and short collaborations ‘le gatte negre’ was formed. The violin, double bass, accordeon, percussion and harmony vocals add a great sound to the songs. Amarins’s lyrics are often inspired by the sea: from lonely boats and messages-in-a-bottle to Baywatch star actor David Hasselhoff, running the beach in slow-motion. Amarins’s versatility and humour also show themselves in ‘Billy Jean’, her answer to Michael Jackson’s original. Musically Amarins & Le gatte negre could be described – if only just- as a meltingpot of influences from Folk, Pop, Gypsy, Andrew Sisters to Fanfare.
