Balletto Civile

Balletto Civile (Civil Ballet) is an itinerant collective of performers. It comes into existence in 2003 by the will of Michela Lucenti jointly with Emanuele Braga, Maurizio Camilli, Francesco Gabrielli, and Emanuele Serra. In 2016, they won the Hystrio’s “Corpo a Corpo” prize, which confirmed their talent. The collective seeks a ‘broad’, overall scenic language, namely a synergy among theatre, ballet and live singing. They successfully co-operate with Italians and foreign institutions.

M.A.D. (Antropological Museum of the Dancer)
Dance is the principle of all things; it saw the light together with Eros, because this primeval dance already appears in the chorus of the constellations, in the movement of the planets and stars, in the merry-go-rounds and in the evolutions that they intertwine in the sky and in the harmony of their order "- Luciano di Samosata, sophist 160

"Orbit Danced on vast spaces for a stubborn street symphony" - from the 'Book of Disquiet' by Fernando Pessoa

"According to the etymology of the word Museum, Sacred place for the Muses, we create an open-air museum made of stories of men and women who dedicated their bodies to the sacred temple of Dance. The spectator is invited to stay in this anthropological experiment of human materials' study.

We keep the anxiety of Pessoa's thought and in this state of "persistent disturbance" we resume creating with a necessary look at the contemporary.

Noverre, great dance historian, wrote "may your dances be poems", so our characters are the protagonists of their physical chapters. The bodies are in a protected space, a place halfway between a display case and a greenhouse where creative thinking has exploded. Each chapter offers a detonation, each chapter is an attempt at exposure, a unique piece.

A Symphony (Symphony n°3 by Henryk Górecki "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs") unites these dancers, and it resonates like a secular prayer, a common background on which, as in an orchestral score, the music, the words and the songs of each independent display case / greenhouse emerge.

The concept of Dance that animates the poetry of Balletto Civile is deeply imbued with a research on physical dramaturgy that combines form and intention. Drawing on a poetic imaginary where the dancer's body becomes a vehicle of expressive urgency and almost naturally it transforms poetry into a contemporary image.

Balletto Civile returns to give bodies to the eye. The Whole needs to be elsewhere, the "dance is entering another world", this is not the time for us to build representations but to deconstruct the mimetic form in favor of a symbolic form. For us, now, the body of the dancer is made through change and his is an act of transformation in itself, as always between the lines of our words and the sweat of our bodies.

What does this idea of the "museum of the dancer" consist in?
Art is alive and ours is contemporary.
We imagine 10 stations / installations with a single dancer, each isolated in his own micro-world, with a plastic veil that acts as a diaphragm, protection and magnifying glass for his exploded imagination.
The public, released from this emergency bewildered and in need of beauty, will be able to return to see a body up close, to perceive its warmth, energy and expressive force."
