Fanfara Station
Fanfara Station
FANFARA STATION is a trio that combines the power of a brass band and electronics with North African voices and percussion. Inspired by Marzouk's memories of his father's brass band, Fanfara Station celebrates the epic exploits of Mediterranean migrants, the musical cultures of the African diaspora, and the streams that have long connected the Middle East, the Maghreb, Southern Europe and the Americas.
Fanfara Station is a celebration with a brass band, an entire North African rhythm section, and contemporary electro dance rhythms. It is a dance party created live by just three musicians thanks to the use of loop stations for live overdubs.
The stage is full of instruments: percussion: scascika, tar, bendir, darbuka and tabla next to trumpet, trombone, clarinet and three Tunisian winds: nay, mizued and zocra. The horns of Fanfara Station bring folk and blues accents into a North African electroacoustic universe represented by layers of percussion, winds and singing. The sensibility of modern folk is embedded in a fabric of contemporary electronic dance.
