Sweet Molotov

Giorgia Russo / MagdaClan Circo

MagdaClan is one of Italy’s most beloved contemporary circus companies.
Founded in 2011, the collective now consists of around twenty people including acrobats, musicians, and stage technicians, united by a common dream: to spread wonder through the language of new circus.
Both under the big top and beyond, MagdaClan stands out for the remarkable human, professional, and technical quality of its members: never superficial, always attentive, sincere, and irreverent.
The company has created around twenty productions, including big top shows, performances with symphony orchestras, school shows, site-specific creations, open-air performances, and more.
MagdaClan is also a project that promotes the circus arts not only through performances, but also by organizing festivals, events, and cultural networks.

Giorgia Russo was born in 1983 in Genoa.
Her first approach to the arts was through academic study, earning a degree in Cultural Heritage Conservation, before discovering that practicing art was what truly moved her.
She graduated from the FLIC Circus School in Turin in 2009, and has since continued her training across Europe in dance, theatre, and clowning, developing a personal technique in aerial disciplines driven by her relentless research.
In 2013, she joined the contemporary circus company MagdaClan, performing in numerous shows under the big top, in theatres, and in public spaces. Since 2017, she has been the artistic director of Mon Circo, a traveling circus festival in Monferrato.
Currently completing a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology, Giorgia nurtures her artistic approach through a cross-disciplinary blend of artistic and anthropological inquiry.

Sweet Molotov
"The day when memories came in droves and declared war on oblivion".
This is Sweet Molotov, a contemporary circus show where limits, risk, and emotional imbalance all help narrate the story of a small woman and her reckoning with the past.
The idea stems from the convergence of two paths Giorgia has followed for years: circus and anthropology—exploring how the body tells its stories, how memory inscribes itself upon the body, and what visible and invisible marks carry the weight of the past.
It is within memory that the story unfolds; it is there where the hand-to-hand struggle between memory and the present takes place, to avoid being forgotten. And in that same space, forgetting becomes a survival mechanism.
And then there is the body—the body that bears scars and never stops telling its story, even when we wish it would. So how, then, can one forget?
