Community Service

Seamas Carey

Geoff is doing Community Service and he needs your help. He’s been sent by The Council to implement five easy-to-follow steps for building an instant, flat-pack community. Geoff’s job is to ensure social cohesion, harmony and collective joy. The only problem is – Geoff hates people ... So, will he succeed in forming a new community with a bunch of random strangers, in just 60 minutes? Can you help Geoff see the good in people again? Deftly deploying his trademark blend of sincerity and mischief, Community Service is Seamas Carey at his best; anarchic, joyful and accessible. Come take part or just observe this interactive, inclusive experiment from the internationally award winning Cornish artist.

Seamas Carey is a multi-disciplinary Cornish performer, musician, writer and social commentator whose work sits at the intersection of comedy, music and cultural inquiry. Deeply rooted in Cornwall yet resonating far beyond it, he is best known for dissecting big themes—masculinity, community, tradition, belonging—with disarming honesty and a wry sense of humour.
A skilled multi-instrumentalist and composer, Seamas has created original music for theatre and film, and has collaborated with a range of arts organisations including Kneehigh, Wild Works, Bristol Old Vic, Traveling Light Theatre and Sally Cookson. His solo work includes Help! I Think I’m A Nationalist, Pagan Pandemonium, I Wish I Was A Standing Stone and Seamas Carey Meets His 4 Year Old Self. He founded Cornwall’s first alternative male voice choir, Men Are Singing (2018–2024). In 2020 he won the Maurice O’Connell Bursary Award and exhibited a solo show at Tate St Ives.
